Pandemic Gratitude
Thanksgiving is a holiday tradition in the United States and Canada intended to celebrate the harvest and other blessings in the past year.  Ahhhh 2020, what a year!  I have heard so many people say that this year has been terrible, maybe the worst in their lives.  I agree that much emotional pain, financial loss and social division has been a part of this year.  Many people are still unsure where their next meal will come from, when their spouse will work again, when they can hug their loved ones, or when they can travel home.  In a time of uncertainty, I am certain of one thing:  It is going to be OK.  We are resilient.
Gratitude.   According to Oxford Languages, gratitude is defined as a quality of being thankful; readiness to show appreciation for and to return kindness.  Other words like it are thanks, appreciation, recognition, respect, acknowledgement.
If you know me at all, or have been through Insights New Hire Orientation in the past couple of years… know that I TRULY believe that everything we believe is impacted by our PERCEPTION of it.  Our own experiences mold our individual beliefs.  We can choose HOW we perceive life.  This is why I always encourage you to see the GOOD in people first…. because our brains cannot UNSEE it.  That is why we focus on strengths and capabilities in all people at Insights.  As Henry David Thoreau once said, “It is not what you look at that matters, it is what you see.”
So, in this season of thanksgiving and gratitude, let me tell you what I am celebrating at Insights:
  • Our unbelievably awesome consumers – who continue to smile, make us laugh and trust us, knowing that we are all striving toward living our very best life, even when that means sacrifice.
  • The countless number of DSPs that continue to show up, give their all, and work through these difficult circumstances to support our mission, vision and values.
  • The fearless leadership of our Site Managers, Team Leaders, CQOs, Operations Team and Directors who continue to find ways to be creative, innovative, and enthusiastic in even the most trying of times.
  • Our gifted Behavioral Consultants, Music Therapists and Mental Health Therapists who strive to find new and imaginative ways to empower positive outcomes for all people who are struggling emotionally.
  • Case Managers, collaborative team members, state and national leaders that work tirelessly to assure that the system continues to exist so that we can support those people who need us most.
  • Healthcare professionals that have supported so many of our staff and consumers through exposure, testing, hurting and healing that COVID-19 has brought us.
Lastly, I am thankful to still have the chance to work to empower life change for all people. I am thankful for my basic personal freedoms to love, live and hope.   I am eternally grateful for my friends and family.  I am thankful for you.  If you are reading this – you are a part of Insights, and you continue to stand with our folks in these times – and for that I cannot say thank you enough.    No matter who you are, and how you fit into the Insights story, I hope you will join me in a vision for our future as hopeful and bright.  May we use this holiday season as a time to refocus.  May your perception of 2020 be one of a time to see the good, a time to know – we are in this together, and we will all be ok.  Happy Thanksgiving!

Your Best Life
Have you ever thought about what it means to live your “best life?”  We often hear about living a good life when we are talking about how to support our folks at work.  Then perhaps you also have your own “bucket list” or thing you would like to achieve to feel a sense of fulfillment in your own life.

I would encourage you to take a moment, pause and think…… “Is this any different for me than it is for the people I support?”  It is not.  The pursuit of “happiness” and living our BEST LIFE is a condition of humanity – not a journey set aside for one group of people.  No matter what your background, the color of your skin, your age, gender, capabilities or needs……we all want to be happy!!   Whether you are staff or a client at Insights Consulting – we are striving to provide the best opportunity for you to live your BEST life.

Here’s a little bit of encouragement:  write down YOUR goals, identify what YOU want and what YOU do not want, think about both your strengths and potential obstacles that can get in your way.  Thinking about this, writing it down, and reflecting on it frequently can transform your journey!
